Iskenderun Miocene Basin

  • Miocene aged clastic basin, clastics and carbonates.
  • Includes 18000 km2 area.
  • Thickness of Miocene sediments is 6000 meters towards the center of the  basin.
  • The 90% of Basin is under the Mediterranean Sea.
  • East-west directional strike slip faults of Upper
  • Pliocene gave the final shape to the basin.
  • More than 40 wells drilled both onshore and offshore region of the basin from 60’s to present.
  • No production in the basin yet.

Prospects and Hydrocarbon System

Primary Target: Miocene reefoidal limestones and Upper Miocene sandstones (Horu and Kızıldere fm)
Source Rock: Middle Miocene marine shales
Cap Rock: Haymaseki evaporites, Neogene aged marine shales.
Plays: Both stratigraphic and structural traps (roll-over anticlines)
Porosity: Vary between 20-30 % for sandstones.
Water Depth: 150-200m
